How do I create an account on the Locals app?
First, go to the Google Play or Apple App Store to download the Locals app.
After installing the app, open it and you’ll see a screen prompting you to either Sign Up or Log In. If you’ve already created an account on Locals (on the website, for example), then tap Log In and enter your email and password. Otherwise, tap Sign Up.
Enter the email address and password you want to use for your Locals account, and check the box to agree to the Terms of Service. Then tap Sign up.
Login to your email account and you will see an email from Locals titled “Confirm your email.” Open it and tap “Verify.” This should bring up the option on your phone to either open the link in a web browser or in the Locals app. Make sure to open it using the Locals app. (if your phone automatically opens the link in a browser, you will need to change that in your phone settings).
After verifying, tap the red button that says “Get Started!”
Enter your desired username for your Locals account. This will have an @ symbol in front of it and will be seen by other members when you post, when others reply to your post, for tagging, and used to find you in the members search.
Enter your date of birth. This is only asked to verify that you are 13 or older. This information is not shared. Tap Continue.
Enter your display name, which is a name that displays before you username when you leave a post (i.e. Display Name @MyUsername) and will also be shown on your profile. You can also choose to upload a photo from your device on this screen. You can also just tap continue at this screen without entering anything, as it is optional and you can always decide on a display name and photo later.
If desired, enter your country and choose whether or not you want your location to be shown on your profile, by tapping the switch on or off. Tap continue.
You can optionally choose up to 5 topics of interest, so that Locals can recommend related communities to help you get started. Make your selections (or pass) and tap continue.
If you selected any topics on the previous screen, you will be shown a list of creators who have communities related to those topics. Tap the + to follow any that interest you, and then tap finish.
You will then be brought to your My Newsfeed page, where you can scroll and check out the posts of the creators you are now following or search for more!
Note: Take notice of the square icon on the bottom left that is highlighted red. This is the app menu button that will always take you to the newsfeed page. If you’ve joined a community and are viewing their page, it will take you to their newsfeed. The icon on the top left indicates what community you are viewing, and you can tap it to switch to another or go to your My Newsfeed.
