How can I set up affiliate links for my community?
As a creator/admin, you can create affiliate links for members of your community so that they can help generate supporters for you. You must invite them to a program in order for them to have a link to share. In order to be able to use the affiliate program, you must have a Stripe account connected.
How to invite a user
- Go to your Creator Admin Panel
- Go to Payment Set Up
- Scroll down to the Affiliate section
- Click Add Affiliate
- Fill in the fields for adding an affiliate
- Email of affiliate - type in the email of the user you want to invite (they must be a part of your community first)
- Reward % - the percentage you will reward your affiliate for each supporter who pays. You can set the amount up to 50%.
- Reward duration - the amount of times you want to reward you affiliate for a single subscription. You can set the amount up to 12 times.
- Click Save
Once you have added an affiliate, that user will receive an email notification of this and receive their affiliate link. Referral links will lead users to your support landing page and will be considered a referral if the user supports while on that page.
Once your affiliate starts generating referrals, you can see some quick stats in this section as well. For each link, you can see:
- Clicks
- Referrals - how many new support
- Rewards earned - how much gross revenue that affiliate earned from their link
- Average retention - how many months a supporter typically sticks around that was generated from this affiliate link (if it was an annual subscription, 1 new month will be added for each new month as the year progresses)
Other Actions
- Editing an affiliate link - once a link is created, you can still edit it in case you want to change the Reward % to something else.
- Disabling a link - if you no longer want to have affiliates, you can disable each link. Once disabled, affiliates will no longer be paid for new subscribers that comes in. Any existing subscriber will still be paid out if your reward duration is more than 1. Links can be re-enabled once they are disabled.
How is support paid out to me if it was generated through an affiliate link?
Normal subscriptions without affiliate links are usually paid directly into your Stripe account in real time. However, if support is now generated through an affiliate link, the money will be held by Locals and paid out after the end of the month, similar to coin payments. You will be able to view what you are owed and when you are paid out through the billing tab. You can reach this by:
- Go to your Creator Admin Panel
- Go to Payments
- Go to Affiliate Payments
Billing periods are broken down per month. You will also see the following columns:
- New Referred Support - how many new support generated from affiliates
- Gross Revenue from Referred Support - how much money generated from support given (i.e. if you got 10 new subscribers at $5/month, this would show $50)
- Net Revenue from Referred Support - this is the gross amount minus fees. You can refer to this article to learn more about our fees.
- Status - this is the status of whether or not Locals has paid you for that period yet
- Paid Amount - how much was paid to your Stripe account for that period
- Paid Date - the date we paid you
- Transaction ID - this was be the transaction id of this payment in your Stripe
